Friday at Freeze festival 2011

Had a good time on Friday at Freeze Festival with all the Treeline riders in attendance and hitting the big kicker. Everyone did really well with Billy taking the title once again and Dom coming in second. Got a nice snap of Matt knocking out a super smooth Front 3 on his second jump of practice!

Yoooouuuuu give me something!!! Yeah we do, an amazing time at Treeline Chalets.

That's right, James Morrison came to stay with us last week and rather than playing on broken strings he ate, drank and was uber merry at night, whilst flinging himself off a kicker to the airbag and shredding like a demon during the day.

Check out James almightly back flip yes he did land it!! whilst representing Treeline with a sticker on his board.

Another great week was had with amazing people and we look forward to welcoming everyone back next year.

High5 to Chill!

The Burton High5 has seen some epic setups so far this tour. From the craftsmanship of Castleford, to the scale of Braehead, the trannies at Hemel to the 2 hour wonder of Tamworth, the visit to Chill Factore was looking good.

Following on from the other High5 events we were expecting a wild show – this could have been Chill Factore’s big return considering the absence of freestyle over the summer.

But on November the 5th, there were no fireworks going off inside the Manchester freezer.

Chill Factore just didn’t seem to be bothered to join in the High5 Fun, being more concerned with showing off their own new rails. Of course, we can’t blame them, they just spent some serious wedge on the new metal work, but that’s not the point of the High5 Tour.

When you see the famous double kink that has been so popular at the other High5 legs being used as an ollie bar… you couldn’t help but laugh in amazement. The epic Burton donkey kink didn’t even make it out to the hill.

Such a shame when riders have travelled from all over the country to grab a taste of the High5 vibe.

Lucky then that the Chill’s new rails are pretty sick, and they provided the riders with the tools for a fine session, but 1 out of 10 for creativity on the park setup.

50+ riders turned up and although disappointed in the park, they nevertheless set about destroying what was out on the hill.

The double hand rail at the top was the main focus of the evening and some of the tricks we encountered were pushing the limit for technical riding we’ve seen at any of the High5 events so far.

360’s out were the trick of the night, made to look all too easy by Carl Howden and George Woolley. A backside 50-50 back 3 out from Si Cudlip was possibly one of the sickest tricks of the night, as the riding turned into a catalogue of styles for the judges to feast on.

A few of the Chill regulars were also taking the opportunity to get noticed – Lucy Butler stomped sweet front and back boards over the flat-down, Rob C was throwing out styles left, right and centre and Craig Nelder took on the features with precision.

But like all these events, it was the podium finishers that stole the show.

Lil’ Will Smith stuck plenty of boardslides through the kink to huge shouts. He was dropping tricks like hot ones as Will won the youth category with skill and a bit of quality gurning. He was closely followed by Calum Paton, who also made the hardest rail in the park look like it was a training jib. Wee Jacob – one of the many making the visit from Scotland – stomped some sweet one-footed styles for another High5 podium spot.

Jake “The Mo” Binne claimed his second Junior males’ High5 title with a display of snowboard terror, the trendy mo he was rocking amplifying that steeze. He landed 270 on 270 out amongst a host of geometric snowboard shapes over the Burton box.

Tomski Robinson was also throwing down on his home turf and with that impressive adult style he claimed third, just being pipped to the second spot by Josh Cook, whose steely nerve at hitting up the kink and the flat bar gave him those extra points and some big props from the older riders.

The girls had also arrived in force for the Manchester High5, and no surprises at who walked away victorious.

Katie Ormerod front flipped off the Burton bench to victory, whilst Becky Menday, despite a gnarly slam on the top handrail continued to destroy the park. Amy Cook followed up for a respectable third place, but as we have come to learn at the High5, competing with those two is ladies tough – they are machines for the shred!

Lynsey Ashdown reigned supreme in the seniors with a typical, technical display including a sick front one switch up over the kink of the flat down. Sophie Addison grabbed second and Sarah Fish – completely at home on the hill – smoothly tweaked out a few nose slides claiming the deserved third podium place.

But as always the big show was provided by the senior men, and those slick Manchester rails allowed them to own the park.

John Weatherly placed third making very technical tricks look effortless over the flat bar and kinked hand rail, whilst Andy Nudds pressed his way to second place with another text book display of riding. His nosepress transfer to boardslide on the shotgun bench was ill!

But this High5 was claimed by Matt McWhirter. He dialled down a series of sick combos over each of the features, including some locked out front nose slide 270’s through the kink at the top of the hill and tidy front boards along the bench towards the bottom.

The riders, as always, made the session with an insane display of creative snowboarding, so big shouts out to them.

The next and final leg of the High5 tour is at MK SNO!zone. Make sure you don’t miss out on that one, as it could very well decide who takes home that golden shovel.

It’s all going to kick off at MK this Saturday night for the ultimate Burton High5 of 2010!

Treeline visits Relentless Freeze Festival in London

This weekend we went to the relentless Freeze festival in Battersea park, London. We arrived on Friday afternoon just in time to see the start of the practice session and some of the UK's finest riders hit the monster kicker. Everyone rode really well considering many of the riders hadn't touched a jump of this scale since the end of last winter.(Scary!!)

Around 1pm the Battle of Britain kicked off and the riders started their runs in a knock out format competition. Each rider rode against another rider, having two runs each, and whoever had the highest score went through to the next round.

Treeline rider Dom Harington was throwing down some big Backside 7's but just missed out on the super final which saw Westbeach (and now Treeline chalets) Rider Andy Nudd's, Jamie Nichols, Scott Penman and Westbeach rider Billy Morgan all go through. In the end it was the battle of the doubles with Billy Morgan taking the victory by throwing an effortless looking double backflip! Smooth as you like, just check to video below!

Morzine goes green
Sustainable ski project in Morzine aims to protect the environment and cut bills.

The ski resort of Morzine, in the French Alps, is setting the standard for sustainable ski destinations with a new partnership between specialist travel business, muchbetteradventures.com, and the Travel Foundation.
More than 30 chalets in the resort have signed up to a new programme to reduce water and energy consumption during the 2010-2011 ski season.
The team from muchbetteradventures.com is working with chalet and hotel owners in Morzine to help them reduce their water and energy consumption. The programme aims to show them how small changes, such as using low flow showerheads, checking for leaks regularly and using energy efficient light bulbs, can make a positive difference to the environment as well as saving up to 25 per cent on utility bills. At the start of the winter season a training workshop will be held to ensure staff understand the issues and to highlight best practice examples that they can use in their daily operations.
The Travel Foundation is backing the scheme, as part of its Make Snowsports Greener campaign, by providing training packs and information, and expert support.
Chalets involved include the Family Ski Company, Ride and Slide, More Mountain, Chalets Koala, Morzine, 1066 and La Combe, and the Riders Refuge.
Alex Naracott, the co-founder of muchbetteradventures.com, said: “It is encouraging to see real commitment from a number of operators in Morzine. This is the beginning of a project we plan to run over the next few years and we anticipate the programme will expand once the first participants start to reap the rewards over the winter.”

Sue Hurdle, chief executive, The Travel Foundation, said: “This is an excellent example of how travel companies can take action for the environment and bring benefits to their business at the same time. We’re encouraging snow sports operators to get involved in this project and work with their suppliers to take action. This year Aberdeen found itself on the series agenda. After an
epic drive we found ourselves there on Friday night unloading the
Westbeach van of goodies into what can only be described as one
of the best dry slopes the UK has ever seen. How stoked were we
to be there… read on and see…

After 7 hours in a van listening to one of the crew singing out of
delerium we got there to be greeted by local Sophie Addison up to
have a wee slide before the comp on Saturday. Not long after, the
mancs arrived and the Stoke Massive, all signs it would be an epic
comp. The comp kicked off on time the following morning with an
amazing turn out, some people coming from as far as Hemel and
Birmingham, cheers Ed and Zoe!

We kicked off with the usual jam session qualifiers and this was
where it became obvious Aberdeen was hiding some pretty steezy,
talented stock with the likes of Kris Bell getting his first ever 1080
on the day and Rohaan Samdani winning the most improved of the
day taking home a Whitelines subscription. He ‘aint been riding
long and even competed on a rental board and let’s be honest,
he ripped… one to watch with his ‘kind’ of’ weird Mctwists off the
kicker!

Before moving on to the 20 minute speed rounds for the top 5 out
of each category we took advantage of the straight on ¼ pipe at
Aberdeen and changed the usual rail jam to a biggest air/sickest
trick show down in the ¼. The session actually ended up being
a biggest air show down between Sheffield veteran Matt Gibson,
Barrie Parker and Hector Barbour… eventually Hector took
the title by a whisker and Kris Bell stomped his front 7 in the ¼

with uber style taking the sickest trick for the 2nd time in the day!

Next up the 20 minutes speed round. This is split into 2 the first
one being all 16 and unders, top 5 from each category fighting it
out to make it to the top 3 super final. As there were only 3 entries
into the Womens ski category they chose to place in the semi final
meaning they didn’t ride in the super final. Zoe Lewis and Kelly
O’Donnell took 3rd and 2nd place respectively with some steezy 3’s
leaving local skier Beth Woodall taking 1st by throwing down back
flips. As with the womens ski the same went for the 16 and under
girls snowboard with Lara Wood and Becky Menday battling it out
for 1st and 2nd. Lara took 2nd place with a back 3 leaving Becky
Menday to take 1st, retaining her Halifax title with a front 3.

No part of this series would be complete without the team event…
The whole idea of the team event is a time to chill, get creative and
imaginative and just plain stoopid. We had some pretty interesting
team names, some we are unable to repeat… The team comp
saw the current title holders Stoke Massive skiers up against
Andy Wilson’s team, Captain lavender and the sunflower pirates
and whilst Stoke were definitely stepping up the creativity side of
things having sword fights and using the grass at the side of the
slope, their title was taken away by Wilsons team for their perfectly
timed Macarena off the kicker in unison… blew the judges away!

After a nice chilled team event it was time for the long anticipated
super final. Normally 3 riders and skiers from each category
battling it out for their final podium spots, however the judges
had come up against it with the skill at the slope and had to
put 4 through for the 16 and under ski boys final and the mens
snowboard finals.

16 and under girls skiers saw Rowan Cheshire place 3rd throwing
down a 540 and 720 but just not clean enough to take 2nd from
Sissy Herant who also did a 5 and a 7 a tad cleaner than gnarly
Miss Cheshire. Anna Vincenti stepped up to take 1st place and
hold her title from Halifax with what’s becoming her signature misty
flip. With the 16 and under girls snowboard already placed they
took the opportunity to chill whilst the womens snowboard category
had to battle it out between the four of them as to who would
podium. It was all fairly close but it was Sarah Fish who whilst
only her 3rd time riding dry slope got pipped at the post by Lynsey
Ashdown with her Front 3 indy, leaving local Natalie Riley to take
2nd with a back 3. Natalie’s back 3 just didn’t quite hold enough
clout to take 1st away from Sophie Addison another local and also

winner of the Halifax leg of the series.

The boys 16 and under ski finals saw 4 skiers up to fight it out for
the podium. It was Grant Donald who eventually came into 4th
place but bagged himself the Fall-Line skiing and snowboarding
Best Unsponsored prizes. Harris Booth managed to hang on in
there and take 3rd with his corked 900 with Cal Sandieson taking
2nd with a Cork 7 mute and Chris McCormick bagging 1st place
with his Switch 720.

Matt Corey took 3rd in the boy’s 16 and under snowboard final
with some cheeky back 5’s, local lad Fin Bremner stole 2nd place
throwing down a nice 720, and finally Matt McCormick came in
with another 7 but bigger and smoother than Fin, just taking 1st
place.

The ‘Corked 9 reverse tail grab face-off’, no sorry, that’s men’s
ski final saw Chris Wadsworth, Hector Barbour and Andy Wilson
all throwing down the same trick on every jump… This meant
judge Lorn Cameron had to get picky and in the end gave Hector
Barbour 3rd place for a few misgivings, Chris Wadsworth 2nd and
Andy Wilson 1st as he had the most solid, longest grabs and nailed
all his landings.

The mens snowboard final again saw 4 riders up there to battle out
their places. Kris Bell impressed the judges throughout the day
but unfortunately didn’t quite make it into the top 3 with 3rd going to
Danny McCormick for his cab 7, this left Northern lad Col Mytton
to take 2nd place with his huge cab underflip 5, riding consistent
and smooth all day with a nasty hangover. This meant Marc
McClement stepped up to take 1st place with a super slick back 9.
Ah Marc, I remember when you were just a cheeky wee s£$%e!

The comp couldn’t really have gone any better up at the ‘deen,
the locals were super friendly, creating a super nice vibe with
MC Nicol taking us out for a night on the town afterwards, we will
definitely be heading back on up in 2011. Don’t forget to check

Yoga Week at Treeline a huge success

Thank you to everyone that made our first Canu yoga and Treeline Yoga retreat a massive success.

The week was full of wonderful people and everyone survived the detox, no meat, no dairy, no sugar, no caffeine, no alcohol!! and still all had lots of fun!! we all felt very refreshed!

The week was an action packed one with Yoga in the morning and evening then various activities in between. A whole host of activities took place including Rafting, parapenting, horse riding and walking.

In between all this there was a healthy vegetarian detox menu including a gourmet picnic by the lake!

Tour de France passes Treeline Chalets

We have had an exciting weekend with 20 cycling Dutchmen staying at Treeline all cycling a day in front of the tour. Bev a Morzine masseuse had her work cut out massaging 14 very tired bodies! We wish them all the best of luck on there long journey..

Here is what Tour for Kika is all about

At some point all of us realize that health is our most important gift. The Tour for Kika team appreciates our good fortune and wants to give something back by taking on the ultimate cycling challenge, riding the 3600 km (2200 miles) of this year's Tour de France route for charity.

The proceeds of our efforts will go to Kika (Stichting Kinderen Kankervrij - Children Cancer Free). Kika is dedicated to childhood cancer research and providing compassionate care through seven regional cancer centers in the Netherlands to youngsters battling a disease which some of our team have experienced in our own families. Our fund raising target is 100.000 Euro (US $135,000) to support Kika's search into a pediatric cancer cure.

You can help us reach our goal with encouragement and donations through this site. Spread the word, and if you happen to be in France this July look for us on the road one day ahead of the race itself. We'll need your cheers to push us over the mountains of the Alps and Pyrenees. Together we can make a difference for Kika kids so they can ride their bikes and live long and healthy lives.
